Lets move this Blog into the future with some rich media!:
Here is the trailer to An Inconvenient Truth, a documentary about global warming and man made climate change. Using data that has leading climate scientists alarmed and presentations by once presidential hopeful Al Gore as the vehicle, this film promises to cut to the heart of the climate change debate past the sound bites broadcast by the oil lobby in a campaign to cast doubt on climate change science.
This is the kind of movie some one who likes to get into the details will enjoy, especially with the gripping presentation. Check out the trailer and go se the full thing. Especially since the right wing pundits are practically screaming that if you see this you will have your mind twisted by the absolute worst kind of propaganda, SCIENCE!:

Why give a fuss?: The Bush family to benefit directly from Hurricane Katrina relief fund
Why give a fuss?: The Bush family to benefit directly from Hurricane Katrina relief fund
Here is posting about Barbara Bush generously donating money to the Katrina hurricane evacuees, though a large portion of the donation had to be spent on her son's educational software company. Dubai is also a big investor in this company.
Dubai can't have our ports, but they can have the hurricane relief money!

EFF suing AT&T for helping NSA illegally spy on Americans
EFF suing AT&T for helping NSA illegally spy on Americans
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) filed a class-action lawsuit against AT&T on January 31, 2006, accusing the telecom giant of violating the law and the privacy of its customers by collaborating with the National Security Agency (NSA) in its massive and illegal program to wiretap and data-mine Americans' communications.
The lawsuit alleges AT&T has given the government unfettered access to its over 300 terabyte "Daytona" database of caller information, this is one of the largest databases in the world. By opening its network and databases to wholesale surveillance by the NSA the EFF alleges that AT&T has violated the privacy of its customers and the people they call and email, as well as broken long-standing communications privacy laws.
The lawsuit also alleges that AT&T continues to assist the government in its secret and illegal surveillance of millions of Americans. EFF, on behalf of a nationwide class of AT&T customers, is suing to stop this illegal conduct and hold AT&T responsible for its illegal collaboration in the government's domestic spying program, which has violated the law and damaged the fundamental freedoms of the American public.

NASA Climate Expert Says Bush Tried to Silence Him
From the nytimes.com:
"The top climate scientist at NASA says the Bush administration has tried to stop him from speaking out since he gave a lecture last month calling for prompt reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases linked to global warming.
James E. Hansen, longtime director of the agency's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, said in an interview that officials at NASA headquarters had ordered the public affairs staff to review his coming lectures, papers, postings on the Goddard Web site and requests for interviews from journalists."
The administration is up to it's usual tricks, in this case including censorship of one our greatest scientists in an attempt to distort the public perception of important issues. In this case via unofficial phone calls laving no trail, sounds like a familiar tactic, nothing 'on the record'. These unidentified Bush administrators want the administration of NASA to control and in many cases head off the Doctors communication with the media and the public.
Thats not how science works. Science searches for the truth, and the truth is offensive to those who practice deceit.

Ohio: 2004 Stolen Elections and Bush Money Laundering
A federal probes finds Team Bush in Washington invloved in more deciepts, this time with three indictments for money laundering and other pro-Bush election crimes involving Ohio "Coingate" lynchpin Tom Noe. Again bringing the light to Ohio's 2004 stolen election scandal.
The latest charges are that Noe did an end run around the $2,000 federal campaign donation limit by giving his money to 24 associates and having them funnel it to the Bush-Cheney campaign. This helped Noe's keep his promise to raise $50,000 for the GOP presidential effort. Noel Hillman, the chief of the U.S. Justice Department's Public Integrity Section, calls this case against Noe "one of the most blatant and excessive campaign-finance criminal schemes we have encountered" in recent years.
And let us not forget who else is tied in, Ohio Gov. Robert Taft has also been convicted of three misdemeanor ethics violations, at least one of which involves a golf outing with Noe, at which Noe claims he told Taft about the secret Coingate investment/slush fund.
This large money laundering scandal leading directly to the Bush-Cheney campaign, in the state where the 2004 election was decided, adds another dimension to corruption in the Bush Whitehouse. Not only faslifying inteligence to bring us to war, Plamegate scandals, but rigged elections and money laundering to boot.
Noe is also at the center of speculation on how huge numbers of votes in the Toledo area may have wrongly found their way into the Bush column, helping the GOP again take the presidency in 2004.
Noe was deeply involved in controversial procurement deals that brought Diebold opti-scan vote counting machines into inner city Toledo precincts. Many of those machines suspiciously malfunctioned at key times on election day. You can read the goverment report from the General Accounting Office here that details this and other inconsistencies in the 2004 elections in Ohio.

Ohio: 2004 Stolen Elections
As legal nooses tighten around the Bush/Cheney/Rove inner circle, a shocking government report questions the legitimacy of the 2004 election of Bush to a second term. This in an extremely damming report from the General Accounting Office.
The General Accounting Office is the government's lead investigative agency known for its thorough, in-depth analyses. The report GAO has released concurs with assertions, widely dismissed as "conspiracy theories", that Bush is not the legitimate 2004 presidential election.
Last year, senior Judiciary Committee John Conyers (D-MI) asked the General Accounting Office to investigate electronic voting machines used during the November 2, 2004, presidential election. According to CNN, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee received "more than 57,000 complaints" following Bush's alleged re-election. Many have been recorded under oath in a series of sworn statements and affidavits in public hearings and investigations.
The nonpartisan General Accounting Office report has found that, "some of [the] concerns about electronic voting machines have been realized and have caused problems with recent elections, resulting in the loss and miscount of votes."
The United States is the only major democracy that allows private partisan corporations to secretly count and tabulate the votes with proprietary non-transparent software.
This General Accounting Office study makes it clear that no bank, grocery store nor mom & pop shop would dare operate its business on a computer system as flimsy, fragile and easily manipulated as the one on which the 2004 election turned.
The CEO of one of the most crucial suppliers of electronic voting machines, Warren O'Dell of Diebold, pledged before the 2004 campaign to deliver Ohio's electoral votes to George W. Bush. In a 2003 fundraising letter, Diebold CEO Wally O'Dell promised to deliver Ohio's 2004 electoral votes—and thus the election—to Bush. O'Dell is one of Ohio's 19 GOP Bush Pioneer/Ranger high money donors.
These findings are particularly damning when set in the context of an election run in Ohio by a secretary of state who was simultaneously working as co-chair of the Bush-Cheney campaign. The findings confirm that the electronic network on which 800,000 Ohio votes were cast was vulnerable enough to allow a a tiny handful of operatives, or less, to turn the whole vote count using personal computers operating on relatively simple software.
The General Accounting Office report now confirms that electronic voting machines as deployed in 2004 were in fact perfectly engineered to allow a very small number of partisans with minimal computer skills and equipment to shift enough votes to put George W. Bush back in the White House, and that there are now many of these occurrences of shifted votes, almost always in Bush's favor, documented.
Lets see some media coverage!!

Vice President for Torture
This article Vice President for Torture at the washingtonpost.com is well worth the read.
Vice President Dick Cheney is aggressively pursuing an initiative that ise unprecedented for the executive branch: He is proposing that Congress legally authorize human rights abuses by Americans. "Cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment of prisoners is banned by an international treaty negotiated by the Reagan administration and ratified by the United States. The State Department annually issues a report criticizing other governments for violating it. Now Mr. Cheney is asking Congress to approve legal language that would allow the CIA to commit such abuses against foreign prisoners it is holding abroad. In other words, this vice president has become an open advocate of torture.
He once refered to torture as the "Dark Arts"?
I hope people notice that people who have actually been to war (unlike the entire Bush admin) DO NOT abdicate torture.
It seems Cheney is tied to the lies about yellow cake uranium from Niger and outing CIA agent Valerie Plume and now he's is actively campaignng for torture by US service members.

Miers withdraws! Rove and Cheney resign?
Miers withdraws! Rove and Cheney resign?
Well I had some of my hope for federal politics returned to me when Harriet Miers withdrew herself as nominee for the Supreme Court. After Robert's was so easily confirmed I really was worried that no one would stand up against ANOTHER cronies on the SUPREME court. It was outrageous that she was the nomination in the first place, it was also outrageous that the Democrats were not the power behind her withdrawal, conservative Republicans were. It does give hope that the Bush cabal does not completely own the Republican party.
So this week will we dump more cronies, it seems that we will see indictment of Cheney, Rove and two of their lead staffers. With these sorts of power mad elitists you could read "staffer" as "servants" if you wanted.
I have been enjoying the word 'cabal' lately and was very pleased to see the word used by Colin Powell's Chief of Staff to describe Cheney's and Rumsfeld's dealings, work and lies that led to the bogus deadly and damaging war and current occupation in Iraq.

White House floats Cheney resignation rumors
Rumors are flying that Vice president Dick Cheney will resign in the face of the ongoing criminal investigation into the outing of a Covert CIA agent Valerie Plume in retaliation for the White House being called on the repeated bogus assertions they have and do make to justify war with Iraq.
Reported at: usnews.com
That the Bush administration is even letting this idea float, makes me think that the involvement in this traitorous act was likely widespread in the Whitehouse and this is the best they can think to make of the situation.
There have been American lives lost, terrorists running free, complete failure in New Orleans as well as the continuing downturn to our economy. Who has resigned yet?
Brown? He still gets a paycheck from FEMA! Will Cheney resign and then be sitting next to George the next day?

George W Bush claimed to be on first-name terms with God
As reported in the timesonline :The truth about God and George
A senior Palestinian who said that George W Bush claimed to be on first-name terms with God stood by his comments though the President's spokes people claimed he was using a figure of speech.
Nabil Shaath told the BBC that in June 2003 he heard Mr Bush tell Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian Prime Minister: "God would tell me, ‘George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan’, and I did, and then God would tell me, ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq’, and I did."
Mr Bush, once said: "I believe that God wants me to be president", though he denies using God to justify his decisions.
Mr Bush launched an attack on Islamic militants during a speech yesterday, accusing them of seeking to "enslave whole nations" in an empire stretching from Spain to Indonesia.
Last month, senior figures in the Church of England questioned America’s sense of "moral righteousness" in its foreign policy. The bishops of Bath and Wells, Oxford, Coventry, and Worcester, said in their report on countering terrorism: "There is no uniquely righteous nation. No country should see itself as the redeemer nation, singled out by God as part of his providential plan."

President Bush's best Cronie
President Bush's best defense of his nominee nominee to the supreme court, Miers, was that he have known her a long time. She is in fact his employee, and is in no position to serve on the highest court in the U.S.. If confirmed she will likely be ruling on a number of the court cases that involve the President, his cabinet, cronies or the Republican party.
This nomination appears the most thinly veiled appointment of a crony yet, not only at a time when this sort of behavior is an obvious cancer on the Executive Branch's history, but when the Bush cabal may be facing the rule of law.

The following as reported by Democracy Now!:
Tens of Thousands of Asian Laborers In Iraq
Meanwhile in Iraq, Corpwatch is reporting that tens of thousands of low-wage Asian laborers are traveling to Iraq to work for U.S. military contractors such as Halliburton. Monthly salaries usually range from $200 to $1000 - far less than the salaries paid to U.S. contractors. Many of the workers are coming from the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. CorpWatch reports they frequently sleep in crowded trailers and wait outside in line in 100 degree plus heat to eat "slop." Many are said to lack adequate medical care and put in hard labor seven days a week, 10 hours or more a day, for little or no overtime pay. They are also often unprotected from the ongoing fighting. When U.S. contractors slip on helmets and bulletproof vests, the Asian laborers are frequently shielded only by the shirts on their backs. The number of Asian laborers killed since the war began is unknown.
Press Watchdog Calls for U.S. To Release Journalists in Iraq
And in news from Iraq, Reporters Without Borders is marking the start of Ramadan by calling for the United States to release five detained journalists all of whom are working for foreign press outlets. Abdel Amir Younes Hussein, a cameraman with CBS News, has been held since April 5th. Journalist Ammar Daham Naef Khalaf who works for Agence France-presse has been detained since April 11th. Cameramen Samer Mohamed Noor and Ali Omar Abrahem Al Mashadani, of the British press agency Reuters, have been held since June 4 and August 8, respectively. Correspondent Hameed Majed of Al-Arabiya, has been detained since September 15. Reporters without Borders said all of the journalists have been denied access to a lawyer, and the right to receive a visit from their families or their employers.

Is President Bush Truthful About His DUI Conviction?
This is in no way new news, but it is interesting to read none the less. Over at about.com they are reporting that President George Bush apparently got a DUI convection in 1974. That really is not that big of deal, the deal is that he never came forward about this when asked about trouble with the law. I think being honest should be a part of the 12 step plan, and it is probably a good idea for the president to be honest anyways.
